First BugDay at #mozillazine

Sunday November 21st, 1999

Asa Dotzler writes:

"Announcing BugDay!

Bugday, what is it? BugDay is an informal collaborative bug hunting effort and an opportunity to become comfortable with Mozilla the browser and Bugzilla, mozilla.org's bug reporting tool.

When and where is it? The (hopefully) soon to be weekly event is hosted by #mozillazine at irc.mozilla.org [feel free to use mozillaZine's Java-based IRC client in our chat area - mozadmin]. Our first meeting will be Tuesday, November 23 (afternoon into evening USA time).

Who is going to be there? Everyone is welcome. If you want Mozilla better sooner then make it happen. We will have first time as well as veteran bug hunters/reporters. We hope to have Mozilla developers and quality assurance people. Anyone with an interest in furthering Mozilla is invited.

What do I need to bring? We'll be focusing on finding and reporting new bugs as well as verifying and commenting on old bugs, so grab the most recent build you can get, make note of any bugs you've found but not reported and come prepared to surf, search and report.

What do I do when I get there? That's an easy one. You'll surf the web, compose mail, read newsgroups, all with Mozilla. When something doesn't work as it should you say something in the channel."

BugDay will be a great way to mingle with other Mozilla users, developers and QA people, so stop by if you get a chance. If you're not familiar with filling out but reports, there will be plenty of people there to answer questions and help you out.

This first BugDay! is going to be really informal. We're hoping that as many people will attend that can so the hours are not really strict. I plan on being there from around 5 EST until about 10 or 11 EST but I'm sure that others will be there earlier.

#5 time in GMT (for us Europeans)

EST = GMT-5, so in Europe that chat is from around 23:00 on tuesday to 4:00 on wednesday.

yes, quite late... or early, depending on your point of view ;)

Drop by whenever you can. If there's enough interest for a 24 hour BugDay then that's what we'll have. Please stop by #mozillazine and participate when ever you can.

This seems to conflict with one of the developer chats - or has that been moved?

#4 We'll pause for an hour if necessary

Like I said above, this is an informal gathering. We can pause and participate in a developer chat for an hour without any problems. If people are in the middle of some serious bug discussion they could move to another channel or open a private chat for that hour. If anything, the developer chat will be a nice break from the bug hunt and an oportunity to think and talk about the future of mozilla rather than the present.
