Three New Versions Of Developer Chat LogWednesday October 20th, 1999Three readers have cleaned up the chat log and made it available to MZ. We now have Hervé Renault's version, Casey Perkins' version, and Derek Neighbors' version. Not to make it into a contest or anything, but if there are features you prefer about these chats that you'd like incorporated into future chats, let us know. Thanks to Hervé, Casey and Derek for their help. I'm the lazy guy that originally posted the request to clean-up the chat. I really didn't expect such a quick responce. And not only one responce, THREE. This is just another example of the community spirit out there. Choice is ALLWAYS good. Thanks. ... would be almost perfect. Linkify the URLs and all is good. Thanks to everyone for their efforts. Besides being a good resource, it's fun to see my name 'in print'. I'd like to see Herve's formatting, with Derek's colours for the different types of user, but *not* for the "IRC messages" :) Interesting to see this discussion, I've recently been working on logging in my own (win32) irc client and I will probably include xml export. Seeing these suggests the (rather obvious) need for HTML export too. [Obviously, that wouldn't be a solution for mozillaZine logs or anything since it wouldn't know about the different "types" of people... I'm just, er, thinking aloud really...] --sam The log is a lot more readable now. The next step would be to group the messages so that they don't interleave so much. Basically the conversation follows a pattern of somebody posting a question and then a few lines on replies to that question appear. The log is a chronological ordering of all messages. Grouping the messages would make the log a lot more readable. Of course this would be hard to do automatically :( Colours are good if you are reading from the screen or have a colour printer, but alas if you want to print out for future reference on a black and white printer..... They are all nice though, but I would go for Casey's or Derek's version. That Lime green is a bit hard on the eyes though! -Brian In the true nature of OpenSource I have taken your requests into account and I have updated my version slightly so it is a bit more readable and so the hyperlinks are clickable. http://developers.forchrist.com/demos/19991019-xulrdf.html Herve's layout with Dereks colouring, but also. Could you right-align the names (first) column? That would be perfect! / Yeah I only highlighted the developers that were part of the "scheduled" panel. So only the XUL guru (Dave H.) and the two RDF studs. : ) I should have made another color for developers not part of the "scheduled" panel. To add the credibility to their responses. / |
