Jabber News

Friday October 8th, 1999

Jabber, as you may know, is an Open Source Instant Messaging system that can interface with many different IM protocols. It has been in development for some time now, and is finally starting to pick up some commercial interest. Corel has announced that it will bundle Jabber in its Linux distribution, and Webb Interactive has thrown commercial support (and developers) behind Jabber and even hired Jabber's originator Jeremie Miller, who will continue overseeing the Open Source development of the app.

There are also plans for a Jabber component for Mozilla, which should be available for testing sometime soon.

#1 How is Jabber going anyway?

I couldn't help but notice that this story, posted 3 days ago, has exactly zero comments attached to it (except this one) while a story posted later has 79 at last count. I realize that this does not mean that Jabber is dead, but overall, I have heard very little about it and updates have been very few and far between.

Does Jabber live?
