NeoPlanet Wants to Lead Open Messaging ProjectFriday May 7th, 1999You may recall the Instant Messaging API that appeared briefly on mozilla.org a week ago, only to be tabled pending further review from Netscape. Now, NeoPlanet, one of the first integrators of Mozilla into a consumer product, wants to head up the project. Click here to read the post in netscape.public.mozilla.general, or visit the newsgroup at news.mozilla.org and join in the discussions. Thanks to arielb for the news. Well I for one hope they implement something like jabber (www.jabber.org), so we could use any/all of the popular i/m systems. W Cool!! Seems like Neoplanet is the first major contributor outside of Netscape to Mozilla. Their specs sound cool. Now I just hope that the code they contribute is good. After watching how they handled Adam's ActiveX control... I'm not so sure if this is good news or bad news! Well, they quickly apologized for it... either way, NeoPlanet has obviously decided to take a very active role in Mozilla development, and I don't see how this can be anything but great for Mozilla. And personally I hope many other companies follow suite. Thanks, NeoPlanet! There is now a web site http://www.mozilla.org/projects/rt-messaging/ for this project, and a new newsgroup. Jabber http://jabber.org/ will definately be very involved with this project. Sounds cool to me... I hope they work faster than Jabber though.. oh well i was worried about the Adam Lock thing too but they seemed to take responsibility for the error very quickly, I hope they help adam a bit too. Neoplanet is a pretty nifty browser. I love the skins and the abilty to block pop-up windows. Ever clicked a link called "Aunt Li nda's Gardening Secrets" to find a porn site w/ 2 dozen pop-up's you can't get rid of, well Neoplanet makes those suckers easy to get rid of before they even start. It's upgrading and plug-in system is wonderful. The channels work nicely altough I wish they supported CDF. They still have a ways to go but I really hope some of their work gets intergrated back into Mozilla. |
