New Sidebar Flash Panel

Saturday May 1st, 1999

Here's something new for all of you who haven't been keeping up with the nightly builds. The sidebar area now contains a "flash panel". What is a "flash panel"? From the flash panel specification: "The Flash Panel is a panel in the Sidebar that contains up-to-the-minute information about events that are of direct importance to the current user, including e-mail notification, (both "local" and web-based email), alerts for calendar events, current market information, and online-presence information (e.g., via the AIM protocol)." The problem with the newsgroups is you have all these guys either 1) asking questions about Netscape 4 or even 3 instead of mozilla 2) repeating the same wishes over and over 3) responding to #1 and #2 instead of simply ignoring them #1 is caused by the name of the NG. People see "Netscape" and ask about Netscape. We need a user-NG with a name that has nothing to do with Netscape so everyone knows what it is! #2 is caused by the lack of a wishlist database that's easy to use. <http://boston.devel.org/noreg/moz/news.cgi/start> had the right idea but the implementation could be better. It wasn't publicised either.
