KDE Project Ports Mozilla, Adds Support in ApplicationsSaturday September 11th, 2004Ars Technica, along with dot.kde, is reporting that a number of KDE hackers have ported Mozilla for use in KDE applications. The Gecko engine is currently being brought into KDE as a 'KPart,' which will enable Gecko to be embedded in KDE applications. The port came about at a week-long KDE conference called 'aKademy,' and was done by a number of core KDE maintainers, including some of KDE's current HTML engine (KHTML) hackers. The team is currently working on integrating support for Gecko into the KDE Desktop's default browser, Konqueror. They currently plan to check this support into Mozilla CVS, and be a fully supported port of Mozilla. That's good. With all the GNOME integration, Firefox on KDE was beginning to seem like an unwanted stepchild. Will this mean we'll see firefox for QT some time? Exciting news. happy to read this. doesnt sound like firefox. it sounds like Konqueror with a new Gecko engine. You'll have Konqueror with Gecko embedded but because of the changes needed to Gecko you'll also have Firefox with QT widgets instead of GTK+ widgets. ...is where it's at. I don't care whether Konqi has another renderer (the existing one does are pretty good job as it is). What's valuable about firefox is it's simplicity, extensibility. Whenever I am in Linux, I always use KDE with FireFox. Having it spit out native widgets will probably make the output more attractive and faster. just wow I dislike GNOME (and HL with CS :)), cuz the more they shout, the less they do. Future behind KDE! It is right step to base mozilla on qt! I dislike GNOME (and HL with CS :)), cuz the more they shout, the less they do. Future behind KDE! It is right step to base mozilla on qt! And I dislike doubleclicks on submit buttons. you know...it's about time :) |
