Mozilla Japan Launches as Second International Mozilla Foundation AffiliateWednesday August 18th, 2004Mozilla Japan, a new international affiliate of the Mozilla Foundation launches today. The new group is similar in purpose to the Mozilla Europe group that was founded earlier this year. Mozilla Japan aims to localise Mozilla products for the Japanese market, provide services to help organisations migrate to Mozilla and build the Japanese Mozilla community. Mozilla Japan is backed by Ten Art-ni, the leading provider of open-source solutions in Japan. Chaired by President of the Tokyo University of Technology Hideo Aiso, the Board includes Keio University's Professor Hideyuki Tokuda, Ten Art-ni CEO Nobuo Kita, former Netscape Japan employee Satoko Takita and another Ten Art-ni worker, Motohiro Egota. The Mozilla Foundation has a press release about Mozilla Japan. Mgz sent us a link to CNET News.com article about the new organisation, which fills space by noting that Mozilla is like Godzilla and Godzilla is Japanese. ... except that Godzilla isn't Japanese. "Mojira", anyone? "Mozilla" isn't from "Godzilla" -- it's the Mosaic Killer* ... Mos Killa ... Mozilla (* = as in "Killer App") And how does that explain Netscape's mascot, the green lizard, and Mozilla's mascot, the red dinosaur? The choice of mascots seems to support the Godzilla theory... ??????????? ???? ??????????? Firefox ????????????? ???? ????????? Thunderbird ????! #6 While the name is as shortening of mosaic killer...by nentuaby Wednesday August 18th, 2004 11:45 PM It was a shortening *used* because it did, in fact, make for something much like Godzilla. Also because the Gecko codename for the NS rendering engine suggested lizards. Except Mozilla.org predates Gecko. I like how mozillazine fills space with a comment about another site filling space, and it fills the talkback thread. Well, that's nice (not)... Why is Mozillazine not UTF-8? :/ モジラ大好き! |
