Amiga Mozilla Betas Soon

Monday April 26th, 1999

An Amiga Mozilla Project, aMozillaX, is due out in beta soon, according to a chat transcript available here.

AMozillaX is not exactly Mozilla: it utilizes the Gecko layout engine, but the developers created a unique UI (not XUL). There are currently 8 coders working on the project, and the feature list is impressive. Can't wait to get some screenshots!

Well, almost all I know is from that chat transcript, but it sure looks to me like some of this might - potentially - be interesting for use on non-Amiga platforms. If nothing else, just having a Gecko-based browser running more smoothly than M4 would be cool (if in fact they pull it off, that is). But whether they do or not, the point of all this open source stuff is that things aren't bottlenecked by the successes and failures of the "official" Mozilla team quite as much as if it weren't open.
