Netscape 7.2 Release Within the First Two Weeks of August

Friday July 30th, 2004

eWeek have obtained confirmation from AOL that Netscape 7.2 will be released in early August. AOL spokesperson Andrew Weinstein told eWeek that the new version will be available within the first two weeks of August. Previous speculation has centered around an August 3rd release but Weinstein says that this date is just the deadline for placing early CD orders. He also confirmed that Netscape 7.2 will be based on Mozilla 1.7 with "not a lot of additive features". However, eWeek mentions the possible inclusion of the Netscape Toolbar, which is currently only available for Internet Explorer. A screenshot from former Netscape employee Pascal Chevrel seems to confirm this.

Correction: Pascal Chevrel was never employed by Netscape. Oops.

Have to go with the earlier reply, Netscape is important.

Just wait until 7.2 is released, it will be a slow day for netscape servers as copy after copy gets downloaded. Netscape still has the perception of being the product and Mozilla the geeks development browser or just plain not known at all, certainly at an enterprise level. It will be far easier for me to get Netscape 7.2 on everyone's desktop in work than Mozilla. Admittedly I am installing Mozilla 1.7.1 but I'm not yet able to remove access to IE. My plan is Firefox 1.0 will be enough to get the company there, every user who get's hit with a virus or spyware will be told to switch.
