"Transformation Services" Project

Tuesday April 20th, 1999

Ben Bucksch has started a new project called "Transformation Services" devoted to HTML pre-processing in the client based on a "blue sky" idea that originally appeared on

According to the blue sky page upon which this project is based, the preprocessing "could be made available for a variety of purposes, from providing a basis for Machine Translation to having HTML filters. While it is true that some of these features are already possible to some degree or another by use of some of the undocumented tools in Mozilla, the adoption of the TS services described in this document would provide for an easy, flexible, and consistant means to do this."

This is a project started by a third-party developer, and I'm sure he'd be interested in any feedback and help you can give on the project.

Thanks to arielb for the news.

Nice idea, but I think many dynamic html pages will fail as they expect a certain structure, which may be destroyed by an (extensive) transformation.

On the other hand: Maybe one could generalize this mechanism and implement XSL as such a plug-in? Later on, other sophisticated formatting/transformation modules could be added.
