Camino 0.8 Beta Released

Monday May 17th, 2004

Camino version 0.8b was released tonight. In addition to performance, stability, and rendering improvements inherited from Mozilla 1.7, Camino 0.8b adds a Google search field in the toolbar, a more-compact download manager, an entirely rewritten bookmark system, capable of importing Safari, IE, and Mozilla bookmarks, with Rendezvous and Address Book integration and multi-level undo support, greatly improved cookie management, and many more changes.

Since the last release of Camino, the following upgrades have been made to the underlying Gecko engine, and are now available in Camino: incremental, type-ahead find in the content area, automatic size-to-fit for image images larger than the viewable content area and numerous performance and web page rendering enhancements, as well as a large number of bug-fixes.

Camino 0.8b can be downloaded from mozilla.org's FTP servers and more information can be found in the release notes or on Camino's home page. Mike expects the final release of Camino 0.8 to happen in roughly a month.

Is an "underling" [sic] engine one that gets bossed around by others? ;)

So Camino's started using MSHTML, then? :)

I believe the presence of an underling rendering engine means that Kerz/Pink* can't spell.

I don't use sidebars but people I know do, and getting rid of it seems a bit over the top.

It can, or should, but I guess it saved them a lot of trouble fixing 'stupid' bugs :-)
