'Rapid Application Development with Mozilla' Voted Best Mozilla Development Book

Thursday February 12th, 2004

For our last poll, we asked you to pick the best of five popular Mozilla development books. 45% percent of the 373 of you who responded preferred Rapid Application Development with Mozilla, making it the clear winner. Creating Applications with Mozilla was next, with 24% of the vote, followed by the Netscape Mozilla Source Code Guide (12%) and Essential XUL Programming (11%). With a 5% share, Creating XPCOM Components finished in last place.

On Monday, the Mozilla Foundation released the newest Mozilla Firebird version, under the new name Firefox. For our new poll, we simply want to know whether you think the new name is good, okay or bad. Cast your vote and see how others rate the Firefox moniker on the results page.

#2 The FireFox Name Sux. Here's Why...

Let's analyze some associations people will have with the new name:

FireFox = "Red" "Panda"

Red -> communism

Panda -> China -> Communism

This name will therefore likely only serve to further the misconception that OSS in unsuited for our capitalistic society. :(

Also, the names of the most popuar programs SAY SOMTHING ABOUT THE PROGRAM (Internet Explorer, Word, Powerpoint, WordPerfect, Netscape Navigator, Mozilla Browser, Lotus Organizer, even "Linux"). I guess there are things that the "Foundation" hasn't learned yet. IT DOES MATTER, if we are to gain any semblance of a significant market share.

Your communism crap is tired. I could break your name down into all sorts of silly associations, but I won't. Stop trying to make something out of nothing.
