Review of Mozilla Firefox 0.8 from the Perspective of a Galeon User

Tuesday February 10th, 2004

Dave Whitinger writes: "Has Mozilla Firefox finally broken the speed and stability barriers in order to bring about a browser change to this long-time Galeon user? After all this time, Firefox finally won me over and caused me to change my regular web browser." The review contains a few inaccuracies, such as stating that Firefox has switched from XUL widgets to native GTK 2 ones, but is otherwise a good read.

Update: Slashdot reports that Dave now believes Mozilla has turned the tide in the war against Microsoft. In an editorial, Dave says that Mozilla may now prevent Microsoft from dominating the Web and obsoleting Linux as a Web server platform. This is more optimistic than the view four years ago, when Dave thought Mozilla was on course to lose the browser battle and possibly cost Linux the entire war.
