New Mozilla Amiga Project Started

Friday March 12th, 1999

There's a new Mozilla Amiga project out. From the website:

"MOZZAM utilizes the MXlib, my own X server library which utilizes MUI to provide a native X client API to applications. The ultimate goal behind MOZZAM is to be in sync with the Unix source tree of Mozilla..."

There's also a preliminary screenshot of viewer.exe. Thanks again to arielb for the news.

That's cool, but nearly irrelevant with the new Amiga QNX-based developer systems coming. The day will come in the next month or two when it will finally be possible to develop for the new Amiga (5.0) OS, and THAT's what's really going to rip MS a new one.

Not really, there are quite alot of amiga boxes out there that would not go out of use when the new Amiga comes out.

That's true enough, but they are the last of their breed. The new Amigas will have backwardly compatible A) cards or B) emulators but everyone's focus is going to be on the new OS, which will be more powerful than the old.

Don't get me wrong, NASA still uses Amigas in some places, but the old PowerPC boxes just won't have much use anymore with a new system that has learned so much from its predecessors. In short, I think AmigaMoz is a great project and I would work on it myself if I could (to work with upcoming OS 3.5), but when given the choice to develop for NG or OG systems, I'd go with tomorrow over yesterday.
