ftp.mozilla.org Moving Servers Next Wednesday
Wednesday October 1st, 2003
Myk Melez has announced that the mozilla.org download site will move servers on Wednesday 8th October. At the same time, the directory structure on the FTP server will change to make it easier for mirror sites to mirror the contents of the server. This update, which will break all existing links beginning with ftp://ftp.mozilla.org/, will not affect the HTTP version of the download site, located at http://ftp.mozilla.org/.
The FTP and HTTP versions of the new servers are already up and running at the temporary domain names of ftp://ftp-new.mozilla.org/ and http://ftp-new.mozilla.org/ respectively. Note that the new FTP server has the new directory structure applied already, so users wanting the latest nightly build, for example, will have to go to ftp://ftp-new.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/mozilla/nightly/ (as mentioned above, URLs for the HTTP version will not be changing). Downloaders should try to test the new servers as much as possible in the next week and report any bugs that they find.

With the power of symbolic links why not make it so that both old and new pathnames work, so old links will still be fine and http:// urls can be the same path as ftp ones.
