Full Article Attached mozilla.org Web Site and Mail Server Moving to New Machine

Tuesday September 23rd, 2003

The mozilla.org website and mail server will move to a new faster machine today, as the Mozilla Foundation continues its migration from Netscape-donated hosting to facilities provided by meer.net. The new machine will run the open-source Apache Web server software (up to now the site has used Netscape Enterprise Server) and the mailing lists will be handled by Mailman. To help combat spam, DCC will be used and mailing lists will only accept messages from their subscribers (though anybody will be able to post via the newsgroups). There should be no website outage during the changeover but the CVS repository for the website and the mailing lists may go down for a few hours.

In addition, tinderbox.mozilla.org is also moving to a new server today and downtime is planned for source code CVS repository as bonsai.mozilla.org moves to a new machine.

So, whats happening with the old "Netscape-donated" hosting servers? Were they going to be removed by Netscape soon, or was it just time to get new servers?
