Mozilla 1.4.1 Release Candidates

Tuesday September 9th, 2003

Asa Dotzler wrote in to tell us that Mozilla 1.4.1 release candidate builds are now available for Windows, Mac OS X and Linux. Mozilla 1.4.1 is an updated version of Mozilla 1.4 with around 100 additional bugfixes. If you find any problems in these release candidate builds, file a bug and set the blocking1.4.1 flag to ?. See Asa's weblog posting about 1.4.1 for more information.

Will there also be a Netscape update? Any information on that?

It wouldn't take much effort, but it's entirely up to AOL. We'll have to wait and see.

From what I've read (which is nothing official), there won't be an update to 7.1 unless a critical security issue is discovered in 7.1.

I don't see one when querying bugzilla or bonsai (Asa's already done the work - <http://piercedotzler.com/…zilla/1.4.1changelog.html> ). Nothing serious that I can see anyway...

How come my previous message appears twice, with a 13 minute gap between each one?

Maybe a double post appears if we reload the resulting page after a new post. Let's try this theory... ;)

Well, at least in Mozilla 1.4, we can cancel a "Confirm or Cancel" dialog to avoid resending data.

How is it possible this bug (Bug 211092) appears as RESOLVED FIXED when reading the comments makes obvious it's not fixed, but just "not so bad as before".

It's not uncommon for a bug to be marked "fixed" even when an issue isn't completely fixed - often a new bug is opened to sort out the remaining issues, or do whatever followup work is necessary. The way bugzilla works, it's not practical to do a large amount of work in one bug, because it becomes hard to see what is current work and what is old, or to get an overview of the situation.

As the comments in that bug say, the proper fix is the complete overhaul of the units. I believe there is already another bug for that.

The bug is in fact fixed. The remaining issue is the same as all the other rounding-related issues in Mozilla -- the fact that Mozilla measures lengths in twentieths of a point (twips) means that legths that are no integer numbers of twips will be rounded to the nearest twip.

#9 Does 1.4.1 append or replace tabs?

Thanks to Bug 203960, openinig grouped bookmarks in 1.5 with its replace-tabs behavior is PITA. What's the state of 1.4.1?

Prog.

There's no "fixed1.4.1" or 1.4.1 approval flag on that bug, and the checkin was made long after 1.4(.0) was done, so the behaviour in 1.4.1 won't have changed since 1.4.

I still can't do a quick vote in CNN since about 1.2ish. It comes up as page not found. Been using Firebird ever since this problem poped up. I keep hoping it will get fixed but every time I download a new build it craps out. <http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=183208>

hi, 1) the mailchecker biff is supposed to check for email whichever component of mozilla is open - browser/addbook/composer/calendar/mail-news. but till 1.4, biff works only when mail-news component is open. anyone who disagrees?! 2) i remember reading that AOL closed down netscape... so where is the question of netscape 7.1.1..1.1....?!?! cheers MSS

As to 2):

AOL simply closed down the Netscape division, which means no new /development/ will be done for the software. They are still providing limited support, IIRC, which includes patching security holes.

So if you can somehow skew your rechecking mail as a security problem, they might put it in :D
