MacMerc.com Reviews Current Mozilla Foundation ProjectsMonday July 28th, 2003MacMerc.com is currently taking a look at the major Mozilla Foundation projects. The Mac OS X versions of the Mozilla Application Suite, Camino, Mozilla Firebird and Mozilla Thunderbird are all examined. All receive good reviews, except Firebird, which the reviewer compares to Internet Explorer 4.0. The Moz Firebird rating is not at all suprising, even for a 0.6 release. Moz Firebird on OS X is really a 0.1 release given how recently it came out. The UI has many issues that need to be fixed to make it be Mac like. In some places it tries, in some places it doesn't and in some others it only gets there halfway. Sorry, but I still think Moz Firebird isn't as good as most people say. Well... maybe I'll give a later version a new try. On Unix/Win32, it's as good as everyone says. On MacOS, it has been, until recently, pretty much a doorstop. Give it time. It'll need quite a bit of time given that (AFAIK) nobody is working on Firebird on Mac OS at the moment. That's because the Mac Zealots jumped on the Safari/KHTML bandwagon. We'll have to wait until these are outdated and then jump in with the Moz solution. Thing is, Apple is always in the forefront of innovation. |
