MozillaZine Pseudo-Forums Open Thread
Thursday May 1st, 2003
While we're working on getting the MozillaZine Forums restarted, here's an open thread. Use it to discuss all the things you would normally discuss in the forums. You'll need to have a MozillaZine member account to post, which isn't the same thing as a forums username. Remember that while you can't include HTML in Talkback posts, you can insert links by typing the full URL (e.g. http://www.mozilla.org/) surrounded by whitespace (i.e. don't put any punctuation straight after the URL). The Talkback software will eat single linebreaks; use double linebreaks to start a new paragraph.
And because this is just like the forums, the answers to the most frequently asked questions are: a) Create a new profile; b) Tabbrowser Extensions; and c) Because the page author didn't use Web standards.

If Mozillazine forums was really just a web interface to usenet groups people would have the option of going directly to the group without using the web interface. As in, if the bandwidth began to be a problem the web interface could be intentionally slowed or even turned off, and users would simply be automatically encouraged to go directly.
I think if I could access mozillazine stories plus forums through a newsgroup I'd hardly ever use the web interface again.
