Minutes of the mozilla.org Staff Meeting of Wednesday 9th April 2003
Monday April 14th, 2003
The minutes of the mozilla.org staff meeting of Wednesday 9th April 2003 are now online. Issues discussed include 1.4 Beta, 1.3.1, the new Roadmap, the future of the Mozilla suite and Mozilla documentation. Unfortunately, the notes from the April 2nd staff meeting got lost, so those minutes will not be published.
Too true, the front page is built far too much with existing users/contributors in mind.
The only part of the page that says what the product "Mozilla" is ("Mozilla is an open-source web browser and toolkit, designed for standards compliance, performance and portability"), is hidden down in a small sidebar on the RHS of the page, and there's nothing mentioning the philosophy or goals of mozilla.org, or what other software and tools Mozilla.org have created/distributed (eg Gecko, Bugzilla, Rhino etc).
The problem is that a newbie who's been told there's this great thing called Mozilla that all the cool kids use, is likely to be scared off by talk of Mozilla Parties, Roadmaps, Geckos, Hacking and source long before they spot the description and download links of the browser.
