MozillaZine

Thank You!

Wednesday February 19th, 2003

Following on from our appeal for donations, MozillaZine is pleased to announce that we have received enough money to cover our most recent annual hosting bill of US$990. A big thank you to everyone who donated. We really appreciate it.

If you haven't donated yet, don't let the fact that we have reached our target put you off. Donations are welcome all year round. The more money we get now, the longer it will be until we have to do this again. We are also looking into PayPal alternatives and hope to have additional donation systems up and running soon. For now, you can make a donation by buying vastly overpriced stickers from our CafePress.com store. If you purchase a rectangular sticker MozillaZine will receive $5, an oval sticker will make us $10 and a bumper sticker will add $20 to our funds.

Once again, we would like to express our deepest gratitude to everyone who donated. We wish all our readers the best and hope that you continue to enjoy MozillaZine.

$990/yr for webhosting? that seems a bit expensive. What all do you get for this price?

NearlyFreeSpeech (<http://www.nearlyfreespeech.net/>) charges 1$/GB for bandwidth, at 30GB/month, you'd only pay 360$ per year. But you also have to pay 1/MB/month of hard drive space, but I don't think that you use a lot of it.

Their uptime is good, but not great. Their customer service is great, you can check the forums.

If polls can be believed (they can't), Mozillazine got a minimum of 1037$. That's assuming everyone donated the minimum amount in their category. I wonder what happens to the excess? Not much of an excess anyways.

Keep up the good work MozillaZine. joe.

Actually, while I'm not sure exactly how much has been donated so far, I don't think that's far off.

"I wonder what happens to the excess?"

It'll probably sit around in the PayPal account for now.

It is, in fact, absolutely required that they spend the money on beer and hookers in order to keep MozillaZine up to the quality we expect. It's all worthwhile!

I bought a frosted mug, sweatshirt (2xl) and tote bag, which came to $56.

How much of that does mozillazine get?
