You are replying to this message

"Is it better to first uninstall 7.0 from Control Panel>Add/Remove Programs and then reinstall or is it better to just install over the existing program?"

It probably won't make a huge amount of difference.

"should I uunistall first the Java that is now on my machine prior to the new install or will the new 7.02 simply write over it."

I'd uninstall it. It's possibly to have multiple JREs on a machine, which you probably don't want. However, if you've got a newer version of Java than 1.4.0_03, then leave it where it is and choose not install Java in the Netscape 7.02 setup routine. It should find your existing JRE automatically.
