That bug is about dynamic fonts, but Indian script display does not at all require dynamic fonts. (Maybe it did in the pre-Unicode / Netscape 4.0 era, but that's not where we stand now.) What it does need is a rendering engine that is intelligent enough to combine Unicode character sequence into glyph clusters. Pango is such an engine. GTK+ 2 plus requires Pango. Mozilla requires GTK+ 2. Ergo, Mozilla requires Pango already. So why not just use it, too?
