With about:config in recent builds, it's not worth bothering with Preferential. The only difference is that Preferential has collapsible sections. It would be good if we could have Preferential put into the builds so that it comes up when you type about:config.

Does preferential document the preferences? If they said "Changing this pref does blah" then it would be better than just randomly changing items in about:config, it's just the hardcore people won't use it.

Yep, Preferential includes descriptions for many of the preferences and is currently documenting the remaining ones.
#4 Why did they not use Preferential or build upon it

I have heard somewhere that extensions are a good way to show what could be done without experimenting in the trunk code - but often they work of extension builders seem to get ignored or wasted by implementing something that has less features and is less user friendly (e.g. also the tab extensions/multizilla). Why?
