Mozilla 1.3 Alpha Released

Friday December 13th, 2002

Mozilla 1.3 Alpha is out! This release introduces shedloads of new Mail & Newsgroups features (including Bayesian spam classification, message views and improved filtering), a new Bookmarks Quick Search bar (similar to the one found in Phoenix) and support for the Back and Forward buttons on the IntelliMouse Explorer. There's also improvements to the DOM Inspector and lots of other bug fixes. However, remember that this is only an alpha release, so expect bugs.

Builds are available from's Releases Page or directly from the FTP site. Check out the Release Notes for more info.

What I do, and I never run into any problems is, I stick mainly to the a, b, and final releases, but when I install them I uninstall the previous mozilla first via add/remove programs (win2k). Then I go into the directory and look to see if any files are left behind that are not needed there. If there are, I delete those too. Then I run the install for the new version and install it in the same directory (in my case c:\program files\mozilla). Then when I run mozilla, all of my settings are still in place and my email is all there. I've never had a problem.

Now when I install nightlies, I use a second profile just to be on the safe side.
