Mozilla Firefox 3.0.6 Released

Wednesday February 4th, 2009

The sixth minor update to Mozilla Firefox 3 has been released. Firefox 3.0.6 fixes security vulnerabilities, improves stability, improves the ability for scripted commands to work properly with plugins and resolves a handful of other small bugs. The security fixes are detailed in the Firefox 3.0.6 section of the Security Advisories for Firefox 3.0.

The Firefox 3.0.6 Release Notes have more details about the fixes in this minor upgrade. Existing Firefox 3 users are expected to get it via the software update feature built in to the browser or their own operating system's update facility.

As a reminder, Firefox 2.0.0.x is no longer supported and contains known security vulnerabilities. Users should upgrade to Firefox 3 by downloading it from the Firefox product page

Since I've upgraded Firefox to version 3.0.6, Firefox crashes when I close the GMail tab. This also happens when I close Firefox, because then, the GMail tab closes as well. Very annoying. I'm running Firefox on Windows XP SP3. Are there more people who experience this?

For what it's worth, I also received that same date "December 31, 1969" when doing something with an application about a week ago...but, unfortunately, I don't remember what I was doing when I received it!

I've only been a Firefox user since the middle of January and am trying to learn how to use it properly. It seems to be even slower in boot time than IE 6 and I was surprised. I've had a few crashes with it and each time it told me that no log error could be created; perhaps that is normal? Anyway, when I discovered some articles about the "Java Quick Starter" (to improve speed, I guess) automatically being installed with Firefox and how people were having problems with it, I followed the advice given and disabled the Java Quick Starter (you can't uninstall it). Since then (last Saturday), I "think" I have seen some improvement with Firefox...although I have discovered it does not like Hotmail very well!

Anyway...that's my two cents worth...and I really am curious where the date of "December 31, 1969" came from, too!

#12 What happened to FF?!

I am a Windows XP user, with all updates, etc. When I updated to 3.0.6, it completely screwed up FF! The browser opens SO slowly and when it does finally open the pages load slow. It asks for my master password multiple times (instead of just once, like before), and it has been freezing and crashing - something the old FF never did. I don't know what they did to it, but they need to fix it! I have been using FF for 2 years and lately I've actually thought about switching back to IE!

#14 FF problems after latest update (Win XP)

The latest update totally screwed up the button settings and layout on my main pc ( Win XP Home). The bottom toolbar in FF disappeared which means I can no longer edit items before saving in Zotero. Some of the top buttons disappeared or greyed out (ie tooltip visible on mouse over but the name/icon disappeared). The side bar buttons are no longer visible when opening All-In-One Sidebar. I got some of the buttons back by resetting the top toolbar...but I miss the Delicious "bookmark this" button and others. Luckily most are accessible via the right click on webpage (except Zotero edit). My laptop uses Win Vista Business and it works perfectly. Hope it gets fixed very soon.

i wonder if the problems these people are having with FF 3.0.6 will be fixed in 3.0.7. testing the latest build of FF 3.0.7 on Vista and seems to be working fine. upgrade to FF 3.0.7 right away when it comes out. that version seems to be more ready than the upcoming FF 3.1 beta 3 which is being delayed several times.

Updated to 306 a couple of weeks ago and there have been constant crashes on two different sytems - with two different ISPs.

And this page is showing the same problem for many others. Yet Mozilla refuses to make any problems public - and let us know a fix is on the way. Rather bad support.
