Independent Status Reports
Tuesday November 5th, 2002
The latest set of status reports includes updates from AbiMoz, Sardine, Games, Linky and mozdev.
Unfortunately the inflation of projects at mozdev - many of them outdated or not changed for ages - buries the real good ones and hides them from the view of potental users. The list of active projects should include some indication of *when* the project was last active. I dont think the top 50 ranking is very helpful since it has a positive feedback loop: those in the top ranks will get more views and will hence stay even more firmly in the top ranks. A related problem is that there are many projects that somewhat overlap and implement similar features. It is often hard and time consuming to find which of them is the most current, especially in the huge "add ons" category.

I agree, but some project are non active not because there is no more development, but because its something thats already working well. I guess something better is a statusbar of some sort that show: - mozilla version it's aimed for - status of the project (production/staled/development) - the project owners' contact details
