Vote for Your Favourite Mozilla/Gecko-based Browser at OSNewsFriday November 1st, 2002Eugenia sent us a link to a poll at OSNews where you can vote for your favourite alternative Mozilla-based browser. Options include K-Meleon, Galeon and Chimera. For some reason, AOL 8 is included, even though it doesn't use Gecko as its rendering engine. ... I believe. Of course, I've never used AOL, so don't quote me on that. There you go again. Now you're pointing to a poll that shows people like Phoenix. When will all this pro-Phoenix bias end!?! I think it's mozillaZine's duty to find some poll that shows people prefer the Mac Mozilla-based qBati and run a story on that. Not doing so is clearly biased and anti-open-source ;-) --Asa ;-) here's your poll: people who responded that they prefer qBati: 1 people who responded that they prefer phoenix: 0 # surveyed: 1 perhaps more time and money would have allowed us to conduct a more thorough poll, but we'd like to think the results were pretty conclusive. Sean Excluding the original makes no sense - this is just a completely useless poll as i have seen to many already. It makes the assumption that voters have an equal knowledge of all the browsers. This hypothesis is obviously flawed. An extremely little fraction of them will have 0SX, linux and Windows. This poll biases against fresh releases (galeon 1.3, kameleon 0.7), against minority OS (galeon, salamander, chimera, AOL8) and against poorly advertized browsers (salamander). And as already pointed, I don't understand why mozilla/netscape have been discarded. The interest of doing such a poll would be to do a comparison of the UI or UE (speed). It's not about knowing which one deals the best with gecko APIs. And concerning the UI, there are some differences between mozilla and netcape, large differences between mozilla and phoenix, and huge differences between mozilla and the others. Basically, what we learn from this poll is that the preferred browser on Windows that is less than one year old is Phoenix (out of 1) and that the readership of OSNews is somewhat biased in favor of linux. Well, I don't think they're trying to gather a wide pool of statistical data on the subject, just an opinion of the readership. If it bugs you greatly, you could always run your own poll? ;) I love mozilla it self as you allready know it is the main browser in the mozilla/gekeo source It is very stable alot more then netscape 6/7 ands it is simple and skinable something I do not take an advantage of. |
