CNET News.com on Phoenix

Wednesday September 25th, 2002

CNET News.com is running a short article about Phoenix. Relying heavily on quotes from the Phoenix project page, the report probably won't tell you anything that you don't already know but it should help to raise awareness of the project among the wider tech community.

UPDATE! Slashdot also has a story about Phoenix.

ANOTHER UPDATE! Computerworld covered the launch of Phoenix 0.1 and InternetWeek also has a report.

Why do almost all mainstream reviews just seem to be a rehash of the release notes? Probably because the people writing them don't even use the product.

Anyway, Phoenix is great. On Win NT w/ a 450mhz processor it loads in about 8 seconds, compared to mozilla's 15 and IE's probably 6ish (I was getting some error loading IE, so I couldn't count right). On linux the difference feels less noticable. Phoenix loads in maybe 2 seconds and mozilla in 3 on an 800mhz processor. Great job!

Should we even bother submitting bug reports yet? I've found a few minor issues. Most of them seem to be mozilla issues that aren't normally noticable.

thanks, Sean
