One cannot copyright a single word, nor the title of a work (see <http://www.loc.gov/copyright/circs/circ1.html#wnp>). So calling a project \"Sherlock\" cannot be a copyright violation. However, Apple could have a trademark on the name Sherlock for its file search software. So Apple might have claimed that using the name \"Sherlock\" for another search product violated their trademark.
Regardless of whether it is a violation, changing the name will probably avoid confusion.
