#1 Tag in Thunderbird
Thursday December 14th, 2006 10:56 PM
As I understand Tb 2.0 implements tags. Anyone tried using Tb's implementation of tags? Is it any good.
Secondly, I was wonder if its possible (via extensions) to create a kind of IMAP style model between TB and gmail, but with tags. What I am thinking about is a system where the Gmails db and TB's db constantly keep in sync, but not simply with folders but with tags. So if say I add a certain tag to one of my emails via the web interface, the next time I load Tb, it will sync with Gmails db and a tag the local copy of the email appropriately.
PS Please don't suggest switching to a provider with imap support. I can't do that.
#2 more space on mailbar?
Thursday December 14th, 2006 11:34 PM
there is not enough space on mailbar. In tb1.5 both show and search fields were on separate bar. in tb2 these fields are on the same bar as icons, so there is not enough space for them (+some more icons). Is it possible to add empty bar to place both search/view fields on it?
#3 Meanwhile, back at 1.5.x ...

Why is the file bar across the top of this site still pointing to 22.214.171.124 more than a month after the release of 126.96.36.199?
#4 Nice new features in Tbird 2

One of the nice things about the new Tbird is that you can a variety of folder views. This is very helpful to users like me who have multiple email accounts and/or a large number of folders.
You can opt to display only folders that contain unread messages. You can designate foders as "favorites".and display only those folders. Or you can display only folders with recent activity--you opened that folder last time, or you moved a message to it, etc.
Set the right option and you never have to think about compacting your folders again. Tbird 2 will offer to do it automatically with no more prompts and nags. Works great--but why isn't it the defarult??
Another nice touch: Copy again or move again. While reading folder x, you moved a msg to folder y. A minute later you are reading another msg that you also want to move to folder y. You can do that with a keyborad shortcut or only 2 mouse clicks.

Because compacting takes time, especially on larger mail boxes.

Be careful out there - back up your profile before you start reorganizing your emails. See more info in my comment here:
