Full Article Attached Towards Mozilla 1.0

Tuesday June 26th, 2001

Gervase Markham recently posted his feelings on what a 1.0 release of Mozilla would be. Gerv has sent us the follow-up to that posting, including much of the feedback he received. To read it, click the full article link. Once you have read through it, we welcome you to post your feelings on what you think a 1.0 release would have. [As Gerv says, please don't post your favorite list of bugs, only the criteria for choosing what bugs to fix.]

I'm using the latest nightly build right now - downloaded some 10 minutes ago. When I logged into Slashdot, and clicked on the username field, the cursor was placed about 2 cm to the right of the left edge of the textfield and the screen reflowed and the textfield jumped about 5mm up. When I started typing, the cursror jumped to the left.

Right as I'm writing this, there's an empty line above this, but when I start typing, the R in right is moved down a full row and I end up with TWO empty rows between the two paragraphs.

When I type c:\ into the URL bar and press enter, I get a blank screen . When I type d:\ and press enter, I get a directory view with directory icons that are totally unlike any other directory icons in the app. When I re-type c:\ and press enter, I get the contents of the c-drive.

Writing an email earlier, as I was typing, my Win2K task manager showed up to 20% CPU usage. When I stopped typing, it came back down. I could *feel* the slowdown, which is why I checked the CPU usage. Now that I'm typing, it seems fine and another email I typed also seemed fine.

The summary file for my trash folder was created twice in a row, even though it appeared to have been built just fine the first time around. Having said that, the app feels much MUCH better than the nightly build I downloaded about a week ago. Mozilla has only crashed once (a lockup actually) and that was when I went to the ABC site to play "Who want's to be a millionaire", which seems to be a Flash game or something so I won't hold that against Mozilla.. too much anyway... In fact I just sent an email to my brother recommending that he tries the latest nightly build because it's the first build that I could contemplate using as my primary browser.. If only the issues I mentioned above, and the many others like those, would be ironed out first.. POLISH.. Get the metaphor now gwalla?
