Asa Dotzler writes in: "It's BugDay again. Join us today and every Tuesday on IRC for an evening of collaborative bug hunting, triage and discussion. The server is irc.mozilla.org, the channel is #mozillazine and the time is Tuesday afternoon and evening USA time (roughly 10:00PM GMT to 5:00am GMT I think). If you're new to Mozilla or Bugzilla and need some help there will be friendly folks to give you some tips and pointers. If you've been doing this for a while then we could use your help in some bug triage and in helping out the new folks. Hope to see you all at BugDay."
#10 Resolved for me now too

Seems Jake had the same problem, which restores my own sense that this was an upstream problem of potentially large scale.
The problem was resolved for me too, at about 2:30pm PST. But that still meant no connection to anything Mozilla-ish (except Mozillazine) for about 18 hours. And I'm sure the problem was at least somewhat widespread, with no comments from the world at large.
I wish there were some way to check for large scale web outages to avoid wasting time checking ones own configuration in painstaking detail when the fault was clearly somewhere upstream.
OK, thank you all for you time.
