M12 Out!

Tuesday December 21st, 1999

M12 is now out. Get it from the FTP site. It might be a little difficult to get in. If you have a mirror site, let us know in the forum, and we'll add your info to this news item.

So far there are releases for Mac, FreeBSD, Sparc Solaris 2.7, Windows, OpenVMS and Linux.

All the tabs, prefs, fonts, chrome issues will be addressed in due time I'm sure.

>iCab. It has a small footprint because it doesn't do very much except render 3.0 pages. Add JS, Plugin support, full CSS support, etc. etc. and I'm sure it'll get bigger (but surely not 72MB of space and 18MB of Ram).

>Speed. Moz is way slower on the Mac than IE or Nav. This must be addressed by the final release; especially since after applying the 'browser tips' recently mentioned on macintouch.com, both Nav and especially IE4.5 are way faster.

Let's hope they address all these issues, I'm sure they will, because I can't stand using MS products unless I have to, and I really don't see iCab as a viable option for the near future.
