New names (please discuss the names in this thread ONLY)

Post by asa »

After months of discussion and further months of legal investigation, we're finally comfortable moving forward with new names. The new name for the Phoenix browser is "Firebird". The documentation and product strings will be updated soon. In addition to securing the Firebird name, we've also got the OK, from those contributing legal resources, to use the name "Thunderbird" for an email client. Hopefully this will be the end of naming legal issues for a while.

Good choices, and also the ones I predicted a couple of weeks ago in an AfterDark post, based on the reorganization. How about re-enabling the splash screen so we can get some good Firebird splash screens.

If you're not using Firefox, you're not surfing the web, you're suffering it.

Camino, Firebird, Thunderbird, one might think that the Mozilla team has an unhealthy infactuation with American cars. ;)

Willl, as Asa said, that docs and strings "will be updated soon". They probably need some time to make all the changes.
I guess the product will also be changed in bugzilla.

i wasn't really worried about that, but i think it would be a good idea for me to read a post before responding to it.

I like firebird

Thunderbird is a shock to me, since at our high school we call ourselves T-Birds (thunderbirds).

But yeah, Firebird is a cool with me, just seems like were naming mozilla's broken down components into good American cars. Not that that's bad, being an American and all ;)

Great, gotta love the new names. Can't wait to get my hands on a stable Firebird build and for Thunderbird to reach 0.1.
