Windows Media Player 9.0 PlugIn?

Post by jhimmel »

Anyone able to get WMP 9.0 working as a Phoenix PlugIn?

It is working here in Netscape 7.01, but copying the WMP plugin file from the Netscape plugin folder to the poenix plugin folder didn't help.

Thanks,

I am avoiding WMP 9.0 like the plague. you can't uninstall it. that type of behaviour bugs me.

Yes you can. It tells you in big bold print to do a sytem restore before you install it but there is another way. Add/Remove programs then on the left Add/Remove Windows components then uncheck Windows Media Player and it uninstalls.

Well, what's happening is that Phoenix seems to be running an older version of WMP, even though the plugin DLL is the same. I thought maybe there is another file somewhere that needs to be copied.

How can you tell in its using WMP9? My about:plugins says I am using C:\Program Files\Windows Media Player\npdsplay.dll which is version 3.0.2.627, according to the version tab in the properties window.

I'd imagine that's the DLL for WMP9. I just installed WMP9 on my XP box at work, and the version of npdsplay.dll shows 3.0.2.627.
Kubuntu 8.04 (kernel 2.6.24-25-generic) / KDE 3.5.10
CentOS 4.8 (kernel 2.6.9-78.0.22.ELsmp) / KDE 3.5.10
Mac OS X 10.6.1 (Snow Leopard) / iPhone 3GS (32GB black)

Did you check what the version was before you installed WMP9?

Does it 'uninstall' in the same way that IE pretends to 'uninstall'?

Yup. It just removes the shortcut.

Yup. It just removes the shortcut.

I remember there was a big public roar in Japan about the Beta version of WMP9 not 'uninstallable.' Microsoft's explanation: "WMP9, though it's Beta, cannot be uninstalled because it is so tightly integrated into Windows." DUH!

The WMP9 plug-in should be in the WMP9 directory itself. Mozilla automaticly finds this plug-in (you do not need to copy it to your Mozilla plug-ins directory). I don't know how Phoenix does this. If it doesn't work, try copying NP*.DLL from the WMP9 directory to the Phoenix directory.

When the plugin launches an embedded video window, right-click in the video window and select "About". The version I am getting in Poenix is 6.4.09.1125. The version I get in IE and Netscape 7.01 is version 9.00.00.2980. But besides that, you can see the difference right away - V9 has a completely new look.

And Z-God, I tried your suggestion. I coppied all NP*.DLL files from the WMP directory. No change.

One place you can try it is here -
