TBE "no XBL binding for browser" (200303 Linux)

Post by peterthevicar »

If I load Piro's TabBrowserExtensions then restart Px, I get the message 'No XBL binding for browser' and Px won't start. Renaming the chrome/tabextensions.jar file gets Px back, but obviously no TBE. I've tried this on a fresh install and deleting ~/.phoenix

Is it just that TBE isn't working with Px at the moment?

That's right, because Piro said so.

Or just rename "contentEnclosure" to "browser".
content/tabextensions/tabextensions.css
in the tabextensions.jar

I did look on Piro's page of known problems and couldn't see anything relevant - is there somewhere else he has said something about this?

How do you do this in Linux? I managed to get into tabbrowser.jar using Ark and edit the css file (I just changed "contentEnclosure" to "browser" 3 times - is that right?) but when I tried to save the archive Ark just said I should save in the same format as the original (which I thought I was!)

Also when I press 'settings' for TBE in the extensions preference dialog I just get the old preference tree with no entries for advanced TBE config.

How do you do this in Linux?

The Only way I know is rename to zip and get the file, change the file, and put it back, back to jar again.

If exist, delete "tabextensions.rdf" and "XUL.mfl" in your profile directory and try again.
Make sure restore name "tabextensions.zip" to "tabextensions.jar" after hacking.

OK - now I know why I hadn't seen it! Thanks for that. I managed to do the change to content/tabbrowser/tabbrowser.css as you recommended and it all works now! I even have the restore function working and the full settings for the extension. You are very wonderful, thank you!

If you have the time could you say in simple terms what the fix does?

Thanks, Peter

PS In case anyone else wants to do this too, I've put the modified jar file at (edit 2003-03-09: removed link as TBE has now fixed this - thanks Piro!!) (It's for TBE version of 2003-02-27-01)

It's good to have this working again.

This is now happening with the 20030303 Windows build. Can I use PtV's modified .jar or are they platform specific? I will try both that and the hack. Gotta have TBE.

<b>UPDATE:</b> it works for Windows too. Thank you all.

According to Piro's website, TBE version 1.6.2003030601 fixes this problem.
