August 2001 Build Comments Below we have comments regarding the latest daily builds from #mozillazine participants. If you are interested in contributing comments to the build comments page, visit the #mozillazine channel at irc.mozilla.org, and give your comments to Asa. Click here to check out last month's build comments August 12, 2001: If you've been seeing cookie problems in recent windows builds it was probably bug 99286 which was fixed this morning but not before today's builds. The fix involved disabling some -turbo code and reimplementing that bit is covered by bug 99371. In a related story, a quitting from Composer in -turbo bug (99318) was fixed. Not a very active day for development with all the chaos here in the US. Today's build directories: linux, mac, win32 August 30, 2001: I haven't had a chance to use the builds much but the news I heard about today was not so good. Bugs 97678, 97626 probably make today's builds pretty unusable. Today's build directories: linux, mac, win32 August 29, 2001: Bug 86021 landed fixing the -turbo option for multiple profiles and a couple crasher fixes too. I spent a part of the day on the windows build and didn't run into any new problems. Today's build directories: linux, mac, win32 August 28, 2001: I was at LinuxWorld Expo all day and so I didn't test the builds. I'll note for anyone that's interested that topcrash bug 97044 was fixed. Today's build directories: linux, mac, win32 August 27, 2001: Builds continue to improve. We're getting close to the Mozilla 0.9.4 branch point so checking in is even more restricted. Bug 41719 to avoid frustration for lazy people who don't enter a message filter name. A couple of mail sort order bugs were fixed and the nasty middle mouse paste bug 57913. Overall pretty good builds. Today's build directories: linux, mac, and win32 August 23, 2001: Good builds. Several good fixes including one I've been waiting a long time for, bug 18343 (thanks sspitzer!). A handful of crash fixes and a couple of layout and printing fixes as well. Some problems with linux mail crashing (bug 96282) but not seen by everyone. Today's build directories: linux, mac, and win32 August 22, 2001: We have entered the drivers@mozilla.org tree control period before the 0.9.4 Milestone. This will probably last for a couple of weeks so there will likely be fewer checkins that we normally get in that timeframe. Before the approval process started the tree was slammed pretty good with checkins. Today's builds have some great new fixes and some new problems as well. Some nice editor fixes landed for bugs 83918, 62347, 86476, and 87882. Bug 73884 was fixed. Subscribe bug 72869 got fixed. Mac OS 8.5 is again supported with the fix at bug 93195. There were also quite a few UI and other "polish" fixes that landed including URL bar bug 94727 and bug 94870. A couple problems crept in including some cache strangeness that makes Bugzilla extremely painful to use (I think this is bug 96480). Overall an interesting build and worth downloading. As always, bang on it and report your bugs. Today's build directories: linux, mac, and win32 August 21, 2001: I'm back from vacation and so is the BuildBar (Alaska was amazing!). A big change you all may have noticed was the checkin to change how we handle text fields (bug 91602). I've also noticed that the "work offline" text is gone (bug 93936). And we now persist open folder state in mail but unread count seems to have broken. Of note while I was away (on the 17th I think) blake checked in drag and drop bookmark filing. It is now possible to drag a link to the bookmarks folder on the personal toolbar and it will pop open for filing! This is bug 53707. Today's build directories: linux, mac, and win32 August 15, 2001: Great new stuff in Mail News. The folderpane is now using outliner and has columns for unread and total (bug 73865. You can also copy message location from context menu in newsgroups!. I'm on my way to Alaska for a few days and I'm already late for my flight so I don't have time to add a lot to the comments. Good builds, get them and report any bugs. The smoketest blockers from yesterday and today have cleared but be careful about using back and forward if your form data matters to you and you're using any earlier builds (bug 95297). The fix for the mail crasher bug 95243 landed as well. Today's build directories: linux, mac, and win32 August 14, 2001: There are a couple of bugs which have been causing grief lately. The first is annoying but mostly harmless bug 93889, and the second is a bit nastier and can cause permanent problems in your profile. This second problem, bug 95000, can cause your toolbars to permanently disappear if you collapse them. The workaround is to edit or delete your localstore.rdf file (details in the bug). Bryner fixed another focus bug 92210 so things should be a little nicer there. (I heard today that bryner was in a car accident and is in the hospital. Please join me in sending posirive thoughts and prayers his way.) Also new in today's builds is dbaron's fix for bug 93558 which was causing all those blank dialogs and windows. Also blake checked in his new addressbook sidebar tab. You can add the tab to sidebar by going to the sidebar "Tabs|Customize Sidebar" menu. The builds have been less than stellar for a few days but with the cautionary measure mentioned above today's build is quite usable. Today's build directories: linux, mac, and win32 August 10, 2001: Sorry for the missed updates. (insert generic excuse about being busy). I almost missed today's update because I couldn't get away from reading this great website. OK. so what's happening. Today's are the first builds with the old imagelib removed so if you're seeing _new_ problems with images please file those bugs on the imagelib component. Blake checked in a bunch of cleanup for the Help viewer and the much ranted about pref for autocomplete landed (bug 84809). A number of mail and news cleanup bugs were fixed and sspitzer says in a checkin comment "Backend support for push (force) authentication for news. sorry, no UI yet. thanks to ayn2@cornell.edu for the patch." so there's good news on that front. Also, scrolling menus should be much better with the fix for 75142. Good builds. New stuff. Try 'em out and report bugs. Today's build directories: linux, mac, and win32 August 7, 2001: We now have a context menu to global history items (bug 48039). Also the fix for mostfrequent bug 38380 landed. POP over SSL changes landed for bug 68516! and another handful of UI cleanup fixes went in. Give the build a whirl and report any new bugs you find. Today's build directories: linux, mac, and win32 August 6, 2001: Decent builds today. There are still some UI glitches (grippies in the wrong place on splitters and stuff like that) but a lot of last week's UI problems have been cleaned up. A whole truckfull of table fixes landed so help us keep an eye out for changes there. A big landing happened for LDAP/MAPI addressbook integration in bug 78933. PAC reload bug 79246 was fixed. Message compose performace should be improved quite a bit now that blake's fix for 89624 is in and saving in offline IMAP is working with the fix to 64417. Today's build directories: linux, mac, and win32 August 3, 2001: Been busy trying to get Mozilla 0.9.3 released. Finally done with that. I haven't spent much time on the trunk this week so I can't speak to the overall quality of the builds but I've been hearing about several problems. Yesterday we had a couple nasty crashers including one at the Bugzilla Helper (bug 93270) and the mail send crash bug 93266. These have been fixed and the builds are no longer crashing all over the place. There have also been lots of theme problems described in 93193. Most recent alignment problems in themes are probably a result of the recent XUL syntax change from bug 71471. Hewitt's on the case so they should be cleaned up soon. This week has also seen the landings of several critical and major mail-news fixes and a few topcrash fixes. And for all those people contributing lots of complaints about UI polish stuff, blakeross is contributing something a little more useful. He checked in fixes for 83059, 75742, 83765, 87713, 81683 (and a couple others I think). Today's build directories: linux, mac, and win32 August 1, 2001: 0.9.4 development begins! Search file is now working for top level folders thanks to sspitzer's fix for bug 74406. Also news message counts should be closer to reflecting reality after changes for bug 64476 landed. Good builds, give them a try. Today's build directories: linux, mac, and win32 |
