NGLAYOUT STATUS - DETAILED! (continued)

Now here is Rick Gessner with a followup to Angus' update.

RG: Angus is right. The project is really starting to rock.

As the Director of the NGLayout project, I'd like each of you to know just how serious we are about making the best HTML layout engine in the world. And we're equally serious about your involvement. I've read hundreds (if not thousands) of messages from interested folks regarding NGLayout. We've even had the good fortune to have few incredible net developers (Adam Lock comes to mind) make serious contributions. We've vigilantly read the newsgroups trolling for bugs, requests and ideas.

And yet I know that there are more of you out there that could make a great contribution to NGLayout.

  • If you code, then seriously consider sending one of the module owners (or me) a message asking for a task.
  • If you write content, then start throwing your pages at NGLayout. Tell us how well we do (or don't do).
  • If you test, then by ALL means, help us tear the system apart. We desperately need your help!
  • Are you an evangelist? Tell us what you want in the system; talk to us about performance and footprint, about resources and platforms. Then tell your friends, coworkers, and even strangers on the street.
  • Are you a visionary? While we're busily cranking out world-class code, why don't you tell us where we *should* be going.
  • Are you a marketer? Perhaps you can find ways to get NGLayout into more people's hands.
  • By the time NGLayout hits the wire for real, it should be the greatest HTML layout engine on the planet. With your help, version 2.0 can change the world.

    ******

So, before you turn away, consider what Rick has said and how you can contribute to the project. MozillaZine would love it if someone would do up DOM tests and examples or XML tutorials utilizing the new layout engine. DOM should be re-entering the builds sometime soon now, so we'll let you know. If you are interested in helping in this way, send us a message: click helpMozillaZine at right to get our address.
